The Costanti family has owned this 10-hectare estate in Montalcino for over 200 years.  In the latter part of the 19th century, Count Tito Costanti [1827-1895], Clementi Santi and Ferruccio Biondi Santi were pioneers in Montalcino.

Pian delle Vigne has adopted the philosophy of aging in large casks that preserves the exceptional integrity of the Sangiovese berry and imparts the characteristic vibrant elegance of Brunello to the wine. Brunello Pian delle Vigne is an extraordinary expression with great finesse.

Since the first vintage in 2001, Helichrysum has become sought after for its liberal, focused minerality which comes from the fossils found in the vineyards and is a wine Katia affectionately refers to as their ‘gifted student’, which is reflected in the lavish care with which it’s handled.

2019 saw a cold winter with some snow, but rarely sub-zero temperatures. When spring came it gave a dry March and adequate rain in April and May.

94 pts, Monica Larner – robertparker.com. The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino offers sweet fruit with lots of bright cherry and redcurrant. This Brunello reveals medium-rich concentration and an opulent mouthfeel with a smooth or almost creamy quality of fruit.

92 pts, Monica Larner – robertparker.com. The Fattoi 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has a dark and savory set of aromas with blackcurrant, spice, baked rye bread and toasted cumin seed. The oak is very present in this wine, and it adds to the tannins and the rather broad approach of the mouthfeel.

96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021: "The 2019 Cepparello is super-impressive, even though it has just been bottled. Ample and creamy, with its classic sense of mid-weight structure, the 2019 has so much to offer. Silky tannins wrap around a core of red/purplish berry fruit.

Brunello is a red wine of great power and elegance, the ultimate expression of Sangiovese.

Already having scored 97 points from The Wine Independent's Susan Hulme MW, 96 points from Decanter's Aldo Fiordelli and 94+ points from Vinous's Antonio Galloni, it is clear this is a 'enticing wine worth waiting for' (DC).

The fruit for the Riserva 2016 is sourced exclusively from Tenuta Greppo’s oldest vines. The Riserva 2016 was vinified entirely in a mixture of Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is aged for three years in Slavonian oak barrels and aged in bottle before release.

93 Points, James Suckling:“A bright, fruity wine with cherries and walnuts, as well as hints of burnt lemon. It’s medium-bodied with pretty fruit and a fruity finish. Hints of bark add to the complexity. Delicious and balanced. Drink now.” 

Jancis robinson 16++ points: Lustrous mid ruby. Deep, brooding, sweet cherry on the nose. Succulent, if a little austere right now, but with plenty of potential. (WS)

Intense and deep ruby ​​red color, with an enveloping, fruity aroma of cherry and raspberry, a complex of pleasantly balanced spices and vanilla. On the palate it is rich, ample and velvety, with great structure and aromatic persistence, with elegant and gentle tannins.

The Fonterutoli estate is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico DOC in Tuscany and has remained in the same family for 24 generations. The Mazzei family owns 117 hectares of vine, divided in 120 parcels all harvested by hand. Grapes are vinified and matured separately in order to  add complexity to the wines.
