Gaja Ca`Marcanda 2019 - Under bond

gaja ca marcanda - wimbledon wine cellar

Already having scored 97 points from The Wine Independent's Susan Hulme MW, 96 points from Decanter's Aldo Fiordelli and 94+ points from Vinous's Antonio Galloni, it is clear this is a 'enticing wine worth waiting for' (DC). While early vintages had as much as 50% Merlot in the blend, the changing climate in Bolgheri led them to drop this variety completely from 2015 onwards. Made from a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, these varietals provide an 'exciting combination of richness and freshness' (WI) in this 2019 release. The palate shows 'impressive intensity and balance' (WA) with an extraordinary amount of approachability at this young age provided by its 'sumptuous, velvety texture' (WI). With a drinking window up to 2044, we advise that collectors squirrel this away for a few years to give its 'beautifully unforced style' (WI) time to blossom.
