Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano Riserva 2017

Fattoria le pupille morellino di scansano riserva - wimbledon wine cellar

93 Points, James Suckling:“A bright, fruity wine with cherries and walnuts, as well as hints of burnt lemon. It’s medium-bodied with pretty fruit and a fruity finish. Hints of bark add to the complexity. Delicious and balanced. Drink now.”

93 Points, James Button, Decanter “From the estate behind SuperTuscan Saffredi, Le Pupille's Morellino di Scansano Riserva is also very impressive. This Sangiovese-dominant wine has an inviting nose of fresh tobacco, ripe cherry, bramble fruits, herbs and white pepper. Matured for 15 months in large Slavonian oak barrels previously used to hold Saffredi, the palate is super-silky with an incredible moreish tangy raspberry attack. This is followed by herbal notes, rich cherry and blackberry, black and white pepper, a touch of chocolate and just a dash of Grenadine syrup. The freshness is such that the long finish is perfectly cleansed, ready for the next sip..”

Fattoria Le Pupille estate’s most popular wine in the UK: Morellino di Scansano Riserva 2017. Morellino is the local name for Sangiovese in Southern Tuscany and was put on the map by Elisabetta Geppetti, the winemaker of the estate.

The southern Maremma, where this wine is made, is unique in Tuscany due to its coastal hills. The combination of altitude and sea breezes moderate the heat and produces an immensely fresh and elegant style of wine. The Riserva includes 10% Cabernet Sauvignon which adds more structure and polish, balancing a wine that is wonderful to drink now but would also reward a few years in your cellar. Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate frequently describes this wine as “excellent value”, and with our October offer, this is particularly true!

Denomination: Morellino di Scansano DOCG Riserva

Variety: 90% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
