Merlot is adaptable to most soils and is relatively simple to cultivate. It is a vigorous naturally high yielding grape It is vital to pick at optimum ripeness as Merlot can quickly lose its varietal characteristics if harvested overripe.

An attractive, brilliant, dark ruby colour. Wild red berry fruit aromas mingle with notes of cherry stones, with pepper and spices coming through. Smooth, velvety tannins on the palate with a pleasant tang which in the finish provides length of flavour and amazing sapidity.

97 - 99 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown on Robertparker.com: "The 2020 La Conseillante is a blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Seventy percent of the wine is being aged in new French oak barriques, 27% in second-fill barrels and 3% in amphorae. The alcohol came in at 14% and the pH is 3.64.
