Burgundy is Chardonnay`s spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance.
Michel Gros Hautes Cotes de Nuits Blanc Fontaine St Martin 2022
Wine Safari Score: 88-91/100 Greg Sherwood MW. Taut yellow stone fruit aromatics lead to a sleek supple palate with plenty of yellow citrus fruit concentration, a hint of caramelised fig, green melon and a delicate tarte tatin richness on the finish. Really attractive and seductive and ready to drink on release.
Javillier Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022
*All prices in bond* 93-95 pts 4 Stars, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy This is still in barrel, unracked. Pale primrose, the bouquet is less easy to discern at this stage, with a minor oxidative note and some reduction. Put that to one side.
Javillier Bourgogne Blanc Oligocene 2022
*All prices in bond* 87-89 pts 4 stars Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets.
Javillier Meursault Clos du Cromin 2022
*All prices in bond* 88 - 90 pts, 3 Stars, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy Pale lemon colour. Not much nose in these small glasses. There is good tension here on the palate, a crisp lemon note along with some fresh apples. Not immediately intense but with good length. A little touch of the positive youthful bitters.
Javillier Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Forgets 2022
*All prices in bond* 86 - 88 3 Stars, Jasper Morris, MW, Inside Burgundy Mid lemon and lime, restrained nose. A little bit of honeysuckle and musk here, but a significant concentration of fruit on the palate, with a density of texture. Plenty of wine to work with here. Drink from 2024-2027. Tasted: October 2023.
Domaine Michaut Freres Chablis 2022 - DUTY PAID
This wine is mineral driven, with slight floral notes and a steely crisp acidity which makes you want to go back for more. A classic and classy Chablis, showcasing the mineral terroir beautifully with notes of flint stone and fleshy fruits lingering on the palate. A wine that goes well with Burgundy snails, Chablis sausage and seafood.
