Critic scores: James Suckling 96 Points, Sept ‘21; “Fantastic aromas of cappuccino and orange with dark berries. Full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that are layered and wonderfully polished. The wine has wonderful depth and complexity, as well as super structure. Great Viña Real. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years. Will age beautifully."
Josh Raynolds, Vinous 94 Points, April ‘21; “Glass-staining ruby. A highly complex bouquet features ripe red berry, cherry liqueur, cured tobacco and mocha scents, and a smoky mineral nuance and a hint of white pepper add urgency. Sweet, mineral-driven blackberry, cherry-vanilla, chewing tobacco and candied rose flavors show impressive depth as well as energy. Blends power and finesse with a steady hand and finishes chewy, sweet and impressively long, with youthfully gripping tannins adding framework."
2015 Vintage report
2015 is a fantastic vintage. The Wine Advocate rate the vintage outstanding and the best since 2010, awarding the vintage 94/100. Vinous also highly rate the vintage stating “After an early start to the growing season a warm, often hot summer resulted in the earliest harvest on record. Sugar levels were on the high side, resulting in rich, emphatically fruity wines, many of which will provide pleasure on the young side, while the best versions have the depth to age” 94/100
After completing this year’s harvest, they can confirm that the 2015 vintage has emerged as one of the best harvests from the past few years. The fruit quality is what defines this vintage as exceptional due in particular to the exceptional weather they experienced during harvest.
Throughout the vine cycle, the weather conditions were standard. They had rainy autumn from October to December 2014 followed by a dry January with some frosts. The climate during harvest was perfect -- long sunny days followed by low temperatures at night that allowed to harvest good quality grapes at ideal maturation.
Warmer temperatures in September and the beginning of October allowed them to commence harvest earlier and complete harvest sooner than in previous years. At CVNE, they started harvest on September 9 and concluded harvest by October 9.
