Castelvecchi Capotondo Chianti Classico 2021 - IN BOND

castelvecchi chianti classico capotondo - wimbledon wine cellar

In the vineyard: Sangiovese 88% and Canaiolo 12%, the soils are mainly composed of marl and alberese with a smaller percentage of boulder and sandstone. The 2021 vintage followed a regular trend. The winter was generally dry, with temperatures close to the seasonal average. From mid-February and for a good part of the spring period, the year was
characterized by abundant rainfall, which made it possible to create sufficient water reserves to overcome the dry summer period. The summer was warm, without excessive heat waves. Towards the end of August, thanks to some sporadic rain, temperatures dropped slightly, accentuating the temperature range between day and night, which allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest began in October.

In the basement: The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected. Maceration takes place in concrete tanks for 25/30 days. The wine is then left to refine in steel tanks until December, then matures partly in large barrels and partly in fourth or fifth passage barriques for 12 months, this allows the tannins to ripen. Bottle refinement follows.

For tasting: Deep red color with pleasant purple hues. Good body, good acidity and freshness, with prevailing floral notes, hints of red rose and violet. The scent of red fruits prevails, with tendencies towards ripe fruit such as berry, blueberry, cherry and plum, slightly spicy. A wine of great harmony, typical and balanced, with great character.

Strong personality that enhances the position of Castelvecchi, located between 450 and 600 meters above sea level. A wine that promises to evolve sublimely over time, expressing great longevity.

Gastronomic pairings: Widely drinkable wine, excellent throughout the meal and to accompany tasty first courses such as lasagna with mushrooms and sausage, baked red meats, platters of cured meats and medium-aged cheeses.
