Brookdale Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2021 - IN BOND

brookdale old vine chenin blanc - wimbledon wine cellar

Wine Safari Score: 96+/100 Greg Sherwood MW: In her third solo vintage at the Brookdale helm, winemaker Kiara Scott has produced an absolute cracker of a Chenin Blanc from this highly lauded vintage in the Cape. Designated a single vineyard old vine Chenin Blanc, this regal vineyard planted in 1985 continues to offer up some exceptional fruit with impressive depth, texture, and balance. The 2021 brings all the best elements of Chenin Blanc together to boast exotic aromatics of wet straw, fynbos, thyme, dried flowers, and granitic dust before appealing notes of crunchy white peach, yellow citrus and freshly cut green apple. On the palate, the wine unravels with textbook precision to reveal layers of freshly cut pineapple, lemon biscuits, oatmeal, a smoky liquid minerality and an alluring tangy, mouthwatering acidity on the long, glycerol finish. Like all great 2021 whites, this wine displays lovely intensity and fleshy concentration with an element of accessibility while the cool, racy acids lend tension, structure and shape on the finish. Kiara Scott’s many followers will certainly be very pleased with this stunning new release. Enjoy now and comfortably over the next 10+ years.
