Sancerre Comte Lafond 2021

ladoucette sancerre comte lafond 2021 - wimbledon wine cellar

This wine comes from the hilltop town of Sancerre on the left bank of the Upper Loire at an elevation of around 300m. The flint, gravel and limestone soils yield a mineral character to the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Grapes picked from vineyard blocks are vinified separately and then blended together for best balance. No oak ageing.

Count Lafond, ancestor of Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, was the first of the line to buy vineyards in the Loire in the 18th century. He was originally from Burgundy and decided to diversify his wine properties. Since then, Domaine Comte Lafond has continued to develop and produce great white, red and rosé Sancerres.

The exceptional quality of these vineyards enabled Baron Patrick de Ladoucette to strengthen his position in Sancerre by investing in a 35-hectare vineyard, including Orme aux Loups, where Pinot Noir is planted exclusively. This has strengthened its ability to produce very fine rosé and red Sancerres.

In the same way that he created Baron de L in the early 1970s, Baron Patrick de Ladoucette has created three special cuvées since 1993: the Grande cuvée Comte Lafond Blanc, the Grande cuvée Comte Lafond Rouge and the Grande cuvée rosé expressing the quintessence of the greatest Sancerres.
