This wine comes from the most prized plot of the San Polo estate: the two-hectare vineyard Vignavecchia. It is produced from 30 to 40-year-old vines located on a steep, western-facing slope. The soil is poor with a calcareous and limestone composition, adding to the intensity and complexity of this wine with potential for lengthy ageing. The wine was aged for 30 months in lightly-toasted, 600-litre tonneaux and spent a further six months in bottle before release.

Aromas of pine, blue flower, wild herb and menthol take shape on the fragrant nose. The firm, linear palate delivers Marasca cherry, spiced cranberry, liquorice and tobacco before finishing on a hint of coffee. Tightly wound, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity keep it well balanced, but it's still youthfully austere and needs time to fully develop. Drink 2026 – 2046.

Lustrous deep ruby. Deep yet still a little closed, with salty, minerally hints and a touch of cardamom. Compact deep and generous cherry fruit with long sandy tannins and beautifully balanced.
