Selected as one of the 40 best wines for Christmas in the Sunday Times, Rioja Alta Viña Arana Gran Reserva continues its winning streak with the nation’s wine critics. Like others, wine critic Will Lyons has praised the wine’s “amazingly good value”. This follows a 96-point score from James Suckling, and the same from Sarah-Jane Evans MW who awarded Arana 2014 the top place in a report focusing on Rioja Gran Reservas for Decanter. The list of accolades for this wine is now very long indeed!
This is a truly fantastic wine to have at the ready for this festive season – traditional Rioja, ready to drink, and absolutely delicious.
“Amazingly good value, this archetypal old-style rioja is intense and intricately flavoured, flooding the palate with creamy oak, blackberry, vanilla, clove and brioche.”
Will Lyons, The Sunday Times
“Lots of mushroom and walnut aromas with plum and leather, too. It’s full-bodied, but very soft and creamy-textured with lots of old wood, mushroom and ripe fruit on the finish. Some chocolate and hazelnut. Complex and gorgeous.”
96 Points, James Suckling
“Outstanding” 96 Points, Sarah-Jane Evans MW, Decanter
“Just about perfect” 96 Points, Jamie Goode, WineAnorak
“Old-fashioned Rioja at its glorious best”
Tim Atkins MW, Wine of the Week
“One of the most outrageously enjoyable wines I’ve had in months […] Make no mistake, a claret or burgundy of this quality and this maturity would be at least twice the price.”
Johnny Ray, The Spectator
“This wine is one of the most rewarding and classically-shaped wines I have tasted from this property in a long while and the fact that bottles only cost £35 makes this release an even more compelling proposition.”
Matthew Jukes, Wednesday Wine
