Greg Sherwood, MW: 96+/100 and Platter's 5 stars!
Platters: "Rubicon celebrated cab-based Bordeaux flagship since debut 1980. 17 cab increased from 49% in '16 to 68%, with merlot, cab franc, petit verdot. Classic, elegant; dark berry, cedary scents still introverted, though suggest depth & future complexity. Firm structure. 60% new oak."
Greg Sherwood: "While 2017 certainly stands out as another classical year of exceptional quality, the vintage will surely be remembered for its stand-out elegance, seamless palate textures and its signature weightless intensity and concentration."
"This really is another exquisite vintage with charm and poise, Grand Vin potency and an overt, unbridled determination to deliver long-term drinking pleasure. Drink from 2022 to 2040+" Read Greg's full review here.
The 2017 Rubicon is a classic vintage of this iconic Cape wine. Very deep, youthful colour, and intense almost purple hue. Quintessential Rubicon nose with violets, ripe plum, cedarwood, fennel and intense spiciness. A typical liquorice note also evident on the nose. Still young and intense, promising further maturation potential. The palate is full bodied, structured but packed with fresh dark fruit and rounded, linear tannins promising long beneficial maturation. A stand out vintage of Rubicon displaying all the charm of a perfect vintage from mature vines.
