*NEW RELEASE* A rich, round, and fruity expression of the vintage. The Barbaresco 2020 shows notes of strawberry, red fruit, and cherry. The palate shows great integration of the tannins, more rounded than in 2019 yet gentle and graceful. Blackberry, orange, and floral notes yield to a delicate, palate, and voluminous finish.
14 vineyards situated in the municipality of Barbaresco. The land, at a height between 250 and 330m above sea level, covers a surface of 21.4 hectares. The plants are 40 years old on average.
The 2020 vintage is reminiscent of the balanced fruit vintages of 2000 and 2004 where the finesse of Nebbiolo is apparent. The wines are characterized by precise and complex fruit expressions and clean and elegant aromas. They are wines that are already drinkable but will reward with time as the presence of fruit is always a guarantee of aging potential.

94-96 points, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2023 ‘A pale ruby, and blended from 14 vineyard sites, the 2020 Barbaresco was tasted as a barrel sample. Spicy and pure, it is full of red berries with Asian spice and white pepper. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with elegance and refinement throughout, approachable and fine tannins, no harsh edges, and a long-lasting floral finish. This seem to be a vintage that will drink well early but have plenty of longevity as well.’
95 points, James Suckling, July 2023 ‘So many aromas of fresh rose petals as well as hibiscus tea. Medium-bodied with crunchy and flowery character with sliced strawberries and a bright finish. So appealing with lovely structure. Chewy at the end. Drinkable but better in three or four years.’
Vintage:
2020 has been characterized by frequent rainfalls that for various reasons can be defined as atypical. Rains were overall above average (the total annual average has been 900 mm in the Barbaresco area compared to the usual 800mm). The distribution instead of being in winter and spring, was concentrated in the summer months; and surprisingly, despite the very frequent summer thunderstorms, for the first time in many years none of the vineyards were damaged by hail.
Most of the winter rains fell in November (there was also an early snowfall on the 15th) and helped counteract the drought from December to March. During the course of winter, the temperatures were mild, in particular January 2020 will be remembered for being the warmest in the last 50 years. The actual cold, with temperatures below freezing, arrived in mid-March and last a month, however no frost damage occurred. With the sole exceptions of a heat peak in late May, one in August and one in mid-September, the period from May to early October was characterized by an alternation of warm days, thunderstorms and following cooler days. The heat picks in mid-August and in September from the 10th to the 18th helped the grape maturation and the reaching of final ripeness for Nebbiolo. Significant temperature variations characterized the rest of September and October, favouring colour, aromas and the overall health of the grapes.
The harvest of the Nebbiolo grapes started from September 18th, consequently to the spike in temperatures. The picking of the red grapes ended on October 8th with great satisfaction.
