Charles Heidsieck Champagne Reserve - DUTY PAID

charles heidsieck brut reserve - wimbledon wine cellar

Complex  and, therefore, intriguing...

TO THE EYE: The Brut Réserve boasts a deep golden hue. Delicate, vivacious and long-lasting bubbles are the result of a long, slow maturing process in chalk cellars.

ON THE NOSE: Thanks to 40% of reserve wines, the blend offers a complex, elegant, voluptuous nose with a touch of freshly baked brioche, rich toasted notes and sun-drenched fruits - mango, apricot and mirabelle plum - accented by dried fruits, pistachio and almond.

ON THE PALATE: The texture is reminiscent of a crisp layer of nougatine on a velvety cream pastry, filled with plump red plums and ripe cherries. The selection of reserve wines gives the wine lushness. The finish unveils notes of praline and vanilla.

IT IS WITH BRUT RÉSERVE that the House has expressed the quintessence of its style. To be even more qualitative, the juices are exclusively from the first press and the wine benefits from a slow and long maturation of 3 to 4 years, far beyond the norms of the region. Particularly recognisable, this cuvée is the fruit of a unique blend that can be summarised with one equation: 60/40/10.

60: The number of crus gone into a blend that is precise, stringent and tailor-made. The wines produced that year, a third for each varietal (Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), are vinified cru by cru, varietal by varietal, in stainless steel vats.

40: A high proportion of 40% reserve wines, equally divided between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, to ensure the fine complexity and indulgence of the Brut Réserve.

10: The average age of the reserve wines, an exception in Champagne. Taken from the best crus from the best years, the wines placed in reserve are kept in vats for between 5 and 15 years, if not more, to develop finesse and their aromatic range.

COMPLEX, PROFOUND AND INDULGENT, the Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve has taken its time and does not care who knows it. The House bottles each give important information on ageing with the specific the year the wine was placed to age in the chalk cellars as well as the year it was disgorged.

Thanks to all these characteristics, the Brut Reserve is one of the best non-vintage Brut Champagne in its category. In fact, it was awarded 94 points by James Suckling in 2021, making it the highest rated NV Brut in 2021.
