finely-grained, with intense dark berry fruit, liquorice and hints of earthy spices
Castello di Neive's 'Gallina' vineyard is a superior south-facing site, which produces much of the estate's best quality fruit each year.
In years like 2013 - considered an outstanding vintage for the region - the Gallina truly becomes one of the great wines of Piemonte, offering incredible depth, richness, concentration and excellent ageing potential.
Castello di Neive ordinarily reserves its Gallina Barbaresco for the Italian market - after all the Italians do like to keep the best for themselves - but we've been able to secure a small parcel of the exquisite 2013, which is now available to reserve exclusively through us in the UK.
The 2013 is mid-weight with silky structure, yet wonderfully deep, rich and concentrated, showing aromas of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol.
In the mouth the Barbaresco Gallina is finely-grained, with intense dark berry fruit, liquorice and hints of earthy spices - perfectly capturing the essence of what makes Nebbiolo such an appealing grape variety. Rather like drinking an Italian take on Premier Cru Vosne Romanee.
