Wine Safari Score: 96/100 Greg Sherwood MW: André Bruyns is of course the viticulturalist at the famous Lammershoek wine estate from which the grapes for this exceptional old vine wine were sourced from a Chenin Blanc block planted in 1968 on Sandstone and quartz soils. The characteristics of the fruits are profoundly different from expressions grown on decomposed granite, instead exhibiting bold notes of savoury peach puree, melted honey on warm white toast, freshly baked pastries, baked apples, wet straw, sweet herbs, incense, and a tantalising dusty mineral undertone. The palate is broad, intense and expansive with a rich textural glycerol depth and plenty of opulent fruit generosity caressed by soft, succulent fresh acids. This is a really characterful wine that walks with a confident swagger and a real sense of purpose. An old vine expression that will shine in its youth but cellar beneficially for at least 10 to 12+ years.
