*Bordeaux en Primeur 2021* *IN BOND PRICING* The estate: If the history of the estate dates back to the 18th century, the vineyard of Beaumont was born officially in 1824. From 1830 to 1847 the house of Beaumont belonged to the Marquis d’Aligre, one of the wealthiest men in France, who tripled the surface of the vineyard.
91-93/100, Neal Martin: The 2021 Dalem, now benefiting from the consulting nous of Eric Boissenot, has a lovely bouquet, quite refined and poised, featuring blackberry, wild hedgerow and light violet scents. The balanced palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and assiduously integrated oak.
95-96/100, James Suckling: Deep black and blue fruit with cocoa and tar character. Compact and full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins that are very textured and interwoven into the wine. This has a lot of structure to go a long way. Yet it remains in balance with finesse.
Second Vin du Château Pavie
91-92/100, James Suckling: Firm, broad tannins here, with a plush and creamy texture. Full body. Ripe and deep core of dark-blue and black fruit with oyster-shell and iodine character, too. Attractive fruit. 50% merlot and 50% cabernet franc.
Château Phélan Ségur, the taste of its terroir... 93-94/100, James Suckling: Plenty of cabernet character with currant and blackberry and some fresh-herb undertones. Medium body. Fine, firm tannins. Refined and together. Oyster shell and hints of spices such as cloves and white pepper. Tapenade. Typical for the appellation.
Blason d'Issan, a genuine relative... 92-93/100, James Suckling: Medium-bodied with firm, lightly grainy tannins. There’s a lovely, salty undertone to the black fruit and olives with some bitter chocolate and gravel. Compact and nicely fleshy center-palate. 52% merlot and 46% cabernet sauvignon.
La Dame de Montrose, a reliable wine... 92-93/100, James Suckling: A fine and silky St.-Estephe with medium body and supple, fine tannins. Fresh. Pretty blue and purple fruit with stone and some ash notes. Refined and elegant. 53% merlot, 38% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc.
Grand Puy Ducasse, the Renaissance of a Grand Cru Classé... 93-94/100, James Suckling: A precise and focused wine for the vintage and for the chateau, with blackcurrant and iodine character. Medium body. Firm and fresh. Quite tannic. Very well done for the vintage.
Château Beauregard, the pleasure from eyes to palate... 93-94/100, James Suckling: Very fresh and fine with a medium body and silky, delicate tannins. Bright raspberry, blackberry, citrus and light hazelnut notes. Bright and crunchy finish. Creamy and beautiful. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc.
Château d'Issan, the soul of a great Margaux... 95-96/100, James Suckling: A very fine yet structured d’Issan with blackcurrant and plum, as well as spice and walnuts. The palate is full and structured with wonderful tannins and length. It really grows on the palate.
91-94/100, Antonio Galloni: The 2021 Les Pagodes de Cos is a gorgeous second wine. Blackberry, gravel, spice, menthol and licorice all run through the 2021, a wine that is marked by notable freshness and bright acids. Beams of supporting tannin give the wine its energy.
