Shafer’s single-vineyard Carneros-grown Chardonnay is produced from small-clustered clones of grapes selected for their low yields and distinctive flavors. Fermentation takes place within individual oak and stainless steel barrels using native yeasts.
A classically Californian take on this famous northern Rhône varietal, from the Los Olivos District AVA which lies in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County. The cool nights and mornings ensure the wine maintains its freshness, while the warm days bring with it power and weight.
94 Points – Owen Bargreen: Golden straw color, notes of citrus, vanilla and apple on the nose. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with pear fruit, good minerality, a hint of honey and a long clean finish.
100% Chardonnay
95+/100 - Greg Sherwood, MW, A Fine Wine Safari.
"Yet again, the maverick old vine innovator Ian Naude has struck a rich seam of vinous gold with his mouth-watering Langpad Colomard." Greg Sherwood
The nose opens up citrus and flowery. Vistamare is layered and rich on the nose, a clear note of Scotch broom rises from the glass, followed by white pepper, rosemary and caper bush. Intensely fragrant on the palate, apricot stone, sage and a tangy mineral edge. It is creamy, with good balance and a refreshing and long finish.
2021 Rossj-Bass displays the main features of the vintage well, with intense fruit concentration and floral notes. The nose shows ripe citrus notes of lemon peel and orange evolving into tropical fruits. The richness of the nose and the same notes are reflected on the palate, where remarkable acidity balances the fruit concentration.
A really beautiful example of Chardonnay from the Langhe. The wine is named after Angelo Gaja’s eldest daughter Gaia and her grandmother Clothilde Rey. We are the first UK merchant to have the 2021.
