Burgundy 2017 En Primeur Offer
Jancis Robinson on the 2017 vintage
" Vine growers on the Côte d'Or seemed unusually cheerful last week. After seven years of crops shrunk by hail, frost, rot and nasty insects, 2017 has delivered a generous Burgundy vintage. "
Reserve your selection from our 2017 Burgundy en primeur offer; a year of exquisite quality wines and a must-buy vintage for any Burgundy-lover, despite the extreme damage to the crop and subsequent shortages due to frost and hail in the early part of the year. Whilst in Burgundy I experienced the hail and it was ferocious.
The 2017 vintage was a late vintage as a result of a cool spring which meant that flowering was late. August was warm with good intermittent rains and then virtually the whole of September was glorious. The harvest started on the 27th September and went on for 10 days in superb conditions.
A late warm, dry and sunny year for Burgundy, with daytime temperatures averaging a degree above the long-term average, many of our growers are comparing their wines to the great years of 2010 and 2005, with exquisitely ripe fruit, silky tannins and wonderfully pure fragrance.
In 2017 the wines offer, pure Burgundian class: hedonistically expressive fruit wrapped up in Pinot Noir’s classically delicate, silky structure. The whites too have a strong offering, with their succulent texture suggesting early to mid-term drinking will see them at their best
Another release will come at the end of next week from Domaine D'Ardhuy and Domaine Naudin Ferrand. Both have some beautiful offerings not to be missed. Whilst Naudin Ferrand's gorgeous Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix continues to wow...Bizot's glorious wines take us to incredible levels of indulgence and purity, now reaching DRC prices and it's not difficult to see why as global demand continues to soar but cannot be satisfied.
All prices shown offered in bond, per six. Terms & Conditions apply. To reserve any wines in the offer, please contact us with your selection:
Domaine Bruno Desaunay-Bissey
We were first introduced to Bruno 12 years ago and have been enjoying his wines ever since. The winemaking here is seemless. Elegance and silk walk hand in hand. The Grand Crus have to be some of the best value wines in Burgundy. We are opening up 2005 1er cru and they are just so fresh and delicious.
This property is owned by Bruno Desaunay who used to make his Grand Echezeaux for Dominique Laurent. Mostly old vines, his Vosne-Romanee Les Rouge Premier Cru Vosne is situated above the slope of Echezeaux, while his Echezeaux is located right in the center of the Grand Cru plots.
Bottlings from this estate include: Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau Vieilles Vignes, Echezeaux, Gevrey-Chambertin, Grands-Echezeaux, Nuits St. Georges belles croix, Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru En Orveaux , Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, and Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Rouges.
The most desirable bottling, his Grand Echezeaux is situated right at the point where Clos de Vougeot, Le Musigny and Grand Echezeaux come together. Most of his vines are 50 to nearly 70 year old which produces promising and potentially lovely Burgundian wines. Bruno Desaunay wines are bottled without filtration or fining to express both the force and inimitable finesse of Pinot (the iron fist in the velvet glove image really applies here).
Bruno Desaunay, together with his father-in law, Daniel Bissey, have several parcels of very old vines in Vosne (some 80 years), Echezeaux (some 110 years) Grands-Echezeaux (70 years), Chambolle (90 years), and Nuits St. Georges (60 years). Since 2007 Bruno uses no herbicides or pesticides, all the soil being tilled. Bruno's winemaking is very terroir-expressive, doing short pre-fermentation maceration, using indigenous yeasts, and not too much extraction. Barrel-aging is about 1/3 new except for more with the Grands Crus. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. The result is beautifully balanced, perfumed, textured, complex, lingering Burgundies - just the kind we seek.

Domaine Jean - Marc Bouley
This estate is outstanding and offers a fascinating insight into what can be produced by young, innovative growers. The 34 year old superstar of the village, Thomas Bouley took over his father's estate at the ripe old age of 28. His father knew that Thomas was crafting excellent wine in his early 20's. This charming, enthusiastic son of Volnay is a delight to meet and chat with. This is the second year that we are offering out Thomas Bouleys' wines. They have already proved to be a big hit for lovers of superelegant, fruit driven wines.

Working in one of the most picturesque estate houses and cellars in Burgundy, which lies just off the Route des Grands Crus (pictured above), Domaine d’Ardhuy’s winemaker Carel Voorhuis vinifies a wonderfully textured, silky and full-flavoured range of wines.
The domaine’s Ladoix wines offer particularly good value, with much of the fruit declassified from their Corton vineyards. The estate’s entire production has been certified biodynamic since 2012.

This is an address that is often overlooked in Burgundy, however savy wine-buyers are falling in love with the purity and precision of this brilliantly run Estate. Christine Dubreuil has put her heart and soul into lifting the entire reputation of this region. The wines punch well above their weight. Cherry-like Pinot and classically mineral whites are the order of the day here.
Recommended to us in the 2014 vintage, by a Burgundy-loving client who took part in Dubreuil-Fontaine’s grape harvest a number of years ago, we were blown away by the gorgeous silkiness offered by the estate’s wines.
2016 was a super year for the domaine, with incredible fruit richness and intensity – yet the wonderful elegance and delicate structure we adored in the 2015s hasn’t been lost in the slightest. Well worth having in the cellar. The 2017's are delicious, especially the village Pernand Vergelesse Blanc....punching well above it's weight.A real star in anyone's cellar. The Aloxe Corton is also extraordinary.

One of the largest owners of vineyards in the Burgundy region, Jadot boasts the singular distinction of offering both consistent quality and large volumes of their well-priced, everyday drinking wines, as well as some of the finest and most age-worthy Premier and Grand Cru wines, bar none.
While, like most true Burgundy-lovers, we adore the small artisan growers of the region, the quality and value of Louis Jadot's wines are such that we'd always recommend adding a case or two to your en primeur selection.

Patrick Javillier, as well as being one of the most characterful growers in Burgundy, is also a winemaking genius. No doubt spurred on by his love of food and wine, Javillier's wines are full of passion, flavour and epitomise excellence.
His wines (predominantly white) are textbook for Meursault - and represent a style of rich, textured, but elegant white Burgundy, that winemakers all over the world aspire (but usually fail) to emulate. We do not really need to say much about Patrick's 2017s apart from the fact that they are all superb but do not hesitate to buy as quantities are drastically reduced this year having lost much of his crop.

Domaine Hubert Lamy
Saint-Aubin has always been the source of some of Burgundy’s best value, high quality white wines; nestled in the gap in the hills above Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet, the weather can be a little more varied.
However, in great years like 2014 and 2015 - and in the hands of great winemakers like Olivier Lamy - its wines can be considered as much better priced equals to their more illustrious counterparts from the Montrachets and Meursault, as Jancis Robinson made clear in the FT last year.
"Olivier took over his father Hubert’s domaine in 1995. Continuing Hubert’s modernisation of the domaine, Olivier is now regarded as one of the finest winemakers in Saint Aubin."

Domaine Anne Parent
For any serious afficionado of Pommard wines, this is the place the visit and our tasting with Anne of the 2016s every wine was a true reflection of each plot's complex terroir. Anne Parent can trace 12 generations of winemakers in her family stretching back to the 17th century, including an ancestor who became the personal wine advisor to Thomas Jefferson and amongst the first to export Burgundy wines to what became the United States.
But this grand history certainly doesn't show in Anne's demeanour; she's one of the most charming, witty and talkative winemakers you're likely to meet in Burgundy, with a pragmatic and straightforward nature, which results in a wonderfully charming range of fruit-driven and silky wines.
As Parker puts it: "I have a lot of time for the wines of Anne Parent," continuing, "this is a domaine that deserves more attention than it currently receives, a source of pure Pommard; wines that seem to be improving year on year under the guidance of Anne and her team. What is more, prices are very reasonable, which means that everyone can enjoy her wines."
"This was a strong set of wines from Anne Parent, a winemaker who I might suggest is underrated by the cognoscenti. This was one of her strongest portfolios yet, in particular with respect to the Pommard premier crus such as Les Chaponnières, Chanlins and Les Croix Noires. I also highly recommend her outstanding Bourgogne Selection Pomone as one of the great hidden gems. This generic red Burgundy punches at high village cru level and, especially with two declassified barrels of Ladoix premier cru in the mix, is just as good as the superb 2015." Neil Martin MW.2017 reviews from Neil will be published soon.

We first shipped Jean-Yves 'wines to the UK over 10 years ago and in that time have seen him become one of the leading winemakers in the world. His wines are unrivalled for purity. They are some of the greatest wines we have ever come across. An incredible winemaker...understated, meticulous in the cellar who believes passionately about non intervention and the expression of fruit and terroir above all. Each year our clients praise the wines as some of their best purchases. The wines are limited as ever, and we are sorry that we will not be able to fill everyone's demands however we will allocate them as ever, fairly. He deserves the praise that he receives as he has solely created a reputation that is second to none.
His stripped and uncompromising standards in the vineyards and his enviable old vine parcels in Vosne-Romanée combined to give us as stellar line-up of miniscule production red Burgundies built for the long-haul. Bizot is a Professor of viticulture and oenology. Bizot's wines need to open up and reveal their character. Even the village D.O.C Vosne-Romanée will require about 5 years of ageing to appreciate what is to come. Bizot recently made some exciting purchases in the far North of the Cotes-de-Nuits, terriors that he believes are under appreciated. His Chardonnay is right next to Clos-de-Vougeot and is incredible. All of his wines are bottled by hand, barrel by barrel, without filtration. They are for serious and patient connoisseurs. With an auction being held by Acker in Hong Kong on the 19th January,Bizot is set to break all price records for his wine.
Prices are available on request per bottle and are available in cases of 3 or 6:

We are pleased to offer out the stunning Chablis wines from this super Domaine which has been turning heads for the past five years.
2017 has been an excellent year for white Burgundy but Chablis seems to have exceptionally fine bottlings. Chanson has continued to invest
in state of the art technology. With ruthlessly low yields the Domaine goes from strenght to strength and is now a serious contender in Chablis nobility.
We are delighted to have secured a parcel of this exquisite wines. For lovers of Chablis these wines are serious contenders for the stars of the region in 2017.
Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaumes £125
Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre £135

Domaine Marc Soyard
Marc Soyard is a very happy man. Always smiling, charming, a real bon viveur, his wines have impressed us year on year. We first met Marc
when he was working with our acclaimed grower Jean Yves Bizot. Both men have a similar philosophy...that wine making should be as non
interventionalist as possible and that the fruit should express itself in a refined manner that allows nature, fuit and oak to work in harmony. After six years
working with Jean Yves, Marc established Domaine de la Cras with the municipality of Dijon. The results are impressive but what really struck us were
barrels of wine that we tasted from brought in fruit which are beautiful expressions of sublime, delicious pinot noir. The Pommard 2017 is a masterpiece
of effortless pinot. The aromas are mesmerizing and we can only dream of what is to come from this man. We have embraced him as a new talent in Burgundy
and are delighted to bring his wines to the UK market. His pinot noir is also an absolute treat leaving many producers village wines way behind.
